    I am back sort of...

Hey there guys long time no post here. I kind of faded out coming to bp.net for while because I haven't been able to keep any animals. a quick recap to start from the beginning. I went through some mental health issues about 3 years ago. I lost my house and a my job and everything I owned pretty much. This sent me off the deep end. I went to drug rehab for about 9 months than moved into transitional living for a little over a year. I just got my own place again about 18 weeks ago, and my Social security started last month. I started looking around for a bp when I found out that I could get a script from a doctor for a service animal and than found that a snake or other reptiles could be considered for this. Having this document allows me to have a ball python in a place I can not have any kind of animal. I am prat of Houston Reptiles group on facebook. We are an active group, meaning that we actually do things together. We just reached 2000 members and is the largest Texas based reptile facebook now.

anyways a family from the group offered me a normal ball python. They where calling him Charlie, I was going to name him Jax after Jax Teller from Sons of Anarchy. Jax is played my Charlie Hannum so I am going to stick with Charlie. so meet Charlie who after having him less then an hour and half and being in his new home less than 15 mins decided to give me my welcome back present...

Now keep in mind I am going to let him settle for a few days, but I have to get a bigger tube for this guy which will happen thanksgiving day. but I wanted some advice because I have never dealt with this personality before from a ball python...

How do you keep a water dish in with a large ball python that wants to move all night? So I am back in the game. I received Charlie today. He is normal huge heavy strong ball python. He don't scare me but his movements are kind of intimidating. He has a tendency focus on something and then lung twords it... not in attack mode just more like he is in a hurry to check out what he is focused on. The family that brought him to me said he has never bit is very and swiftly active. He is roughly 4 feet, but is very heavy for his size. So how do you handle a huge ball python that think he is a corn snake? He does make it a little hard to chill with.

Just any heavy water dish like ceramic crocks or you can get any of the Exo Terra ones. I use the large Exo Terra for a 5ft Red tail boa and she doesn't move it. She destroys everything else though like pulling down the wires for her RHP, lights and pushing her hide all over but the water dish and her basking rock are the only things she doesn't move. As for handling, just be confident, mnake sure your hands don't smell like rat or mice and don't approach from top or front until you know the snake. Some don't like it, some don't care. Also sometimes they get excited. My Red tail sometimes gets excited when I let her wander on the bed and she moves fast but I just pick her up and shes fine. Sometimes they just like to play.

Use a very heavy water bowl or a larger water bowl with some clean heavy stones.
