Humidity drops with ecoearth - doing something worng?

I recently switched Shesha from aspen shavings to ecoearth due to difficulty getting the humidity high enough for shed periods. The stuff definitely gets high, after a good misting it will jump to 80% (I am still learning how much to mist to get to the right range) but I have been noticing that it also dries out fast and severely. For instance, I have been misting before bed to bring it to about 65%-70% but in the morning it will be down to 40%. Does anyone who uses this have any recommendations for maintaining a stable high humidity with it? I can mist as needed on days off and when I am here before and after work, but during work hours and overnight I need to keep it from plummeting like this. Could it be that the lower layer is still dry after misting so once the surface dries there is no moisture? Any suggestions would be great, I like it so far I just can't seem to get it to retain the moisture for some reason.

Are you using lamps? That will dry out the substrate really quickly.

You could always try lining the lid with Saran Wrap or tinfoil to help keep the humidity inside the tank, or lay a damp towel overhead as well.

I've also heard of some getting plexi glass cut to fit over the lid with holes drilled for ventilation.

I am using lamps and I do have the majority of the lid covered in aluminum foil. The really interesting thing is that the lamp did dry out the aspen too, but with the aspen I could never get it above about 70% with heavy misting, but it never went below about 50% humidity even after being at work all day. Now with the eco-earth a moderate misting will shoot it up to 85% but it is at 40% when I get home. Same lamp is in use and positioned the same as before. Just doesn't seem to make any sense.

Those numbers are fine and should give you a great shed. I would just stick to what you are doing. Humidity going up and down is normal in a tank and it staying at 40% is pretty good.

When you mist lift the hides a bit and mist inside. These will take longer to dry out and will make the hides much more humid than the tank. This is really the most important place to keep the humidity high since it is where the snake stays most of the time.

I keep moist moss in my hides and don't even mist the tank much.
