How many mice in one tank

Hi. Just wondering if I buy min order of live from big cheese (39), and I go through 4 to 8 mice a week, how many mice and what size tank or tub should I keep them in. I don't want 20 or 30 tubs but don't if throwing 20 or 30 together for a couple weeks would be OK. Any feedback is appreciated. thanks

If you have 40 mice, you may need many cages. All of the bucks will fight if left together for any length of time, resulting in injuries, death, and cannibalism.

If it were all females, I would think 40 could live happily in a 40 gallon aquarium with lots of cardboard furniture, just fine for the time you need them for. The more tubes and drink carriers and boxes you can pack in there, the better, because it provides more floor space for them to spread out in.
Alternatively, you could use about 4 10 gallon tanks for the same result.

But if you're attempting to keep an unknown number of sexes in one cage for 5-10 weeks, then you will have deaths and fighting between the males (and with all the stress, possibly the females as well). I would not recommend it.

Why not buy frozen and avoid all the trouble?

Re: How many mice in one tank

Right now only one on f/ t. All my others are live. Also have spotted Python that was on frozen for 2 years+ but went on hunger strike. My wife got it to eat a live mouse the other day. Trying to plan finances and think ahead and lead to this thought. Thanks for sharing info with me.

You're welcome. If I were you I would take some time to try to get the rest on FT. What I find helps, is not soaking them in water. I pop mine under a heat lamp to thaw them, and they get nice and warm, and stay dry and don't get soggy and smelly like they can when thawed in water.

I don't know if Big cheese will pick out females for you (probably not) but you should give that a shot if you need to buy live in bulk.
