How long does a female take to ovulate from it was bred??

    hi guys,

just had a curious question about breeding.. her goes:

How long does a female take to ovulate from the date it was bred?? or last mated? i got a female i tried mating with my male about OCT 9,2014 - i was just curious if my pair was ready - to my surprise, when i checked the morning after, i saw them locked up. Last November 3,2014(about 3 weeks after) i saw mommy swelling at the mid part of the body. it looked like she was ovulating, not sure though but i only fed her a medium sized rat on the 26th of october - that was the last i saw her eat, after that, she would'nt take in any food. anyway, she is now on shed. so - would this mean that she's about to go on her pre-shed lay?

it seems so impossible that being bred once, and within a month or 2, she's ready to lay..
i might just be mistaken and shes just on her regular shed cycle.

    any thoughts?

No one can tell, it can take a few locks or just one. There is only one timeline you can rely on ovy, pre-lay and egg laying.

You can start pairing some animals in November and have eggs in February just like you can have eggs in August.

Depends on where she is in her cycle. If a female has almost-ready-to-be-ovulated follicles, and is she is bred, she will ovulate sooner after that breeding than a female who copulates only at the very beginning of her cycle. Apologies for the loopiness of that sentence, but hopefully the gist of it is there.

Your girl declining food now may well simply be because of her shed, she felt the medium was too big to be comfortable (some girls prefer more, smaller meals while building), or, yeah, it could be related to her reproductive state. I've found some my females are slower to eat immediately around a shed while breeding, while others are the opposite. (Although most seem to pause in eating for me right after the shed at the beginning the cycle. Other than that, they are ravenous.) I'd say, continue to offer food again after she sheds. See if she continues to decline.

Thank for the tip.. i sure do hope its a good sign... would it be best to still introduce a male? would it be okay to throw in my male after shedding before she eats? or wait till she feeds then give her a days rest then introduce a male?

Either before or after she eats is fine. I would personally offer her a meal first. Yep, give her an extra couple days to digest before putting him in if she takes it. If she refuses, put in him the next day or so. Fingers crossed!!
