Wanted... Baby snake for pet... Or adult?

I don't know if you caught my intro post. Very educated and big time herp girl about 20 years ago. Did educational programs, coauthored a book etc. Just now back onto it with a rescue bp. But my husband fell in love with her so I had to give her up. Lol Its my Birthday today and he said I can buy my own baby instead.

Looking for a well bred baby as a pet. Eating well from a good breeder. I know this a bp board but am still deciding. My favorite snake I raised was a red tail boa. Want that same outgoing and friendly attitude. But I don't want the size. Should I go with a bp? Other suggestions? If bp, can you guys recommend any breeders?

Thank you so much for any advice!

BTW my rescue has now shed out beautifully! Just needs weight and frozen mice arrive Monday.

I'm smiling as my husband snuggles with HIS snake and remember my first one. This snake picked him. She was sweet with both of us but just snuggles on his lap and goes to sleep. I always believe in letting the animal pick its person and Sasha has. But now I am jealous and want my baby... Or sweet adult if someone is looking for good home (wink).

You can search fauna classifieds or kingsnake. I recommend Texomareptiles dave is a great guy to work with he answered every single question I had.

One idea is to join a local reptile/ball python facebook group and see if you have any local breeders. See if you could visit them and look at their babies, get an idea of their personalities.

Try a Brazilian Rainbow boa or a smaller locality BCI like a Tarahumara, Sonoran, or Panamanian.

Are their personalities similar to the red tail boa? I'm so torn! Lol the new color morphs are so gorgeous in the balls. And they are so sweet if you get a good one.

They are typically nippy and defensive as neonates but they outgrow it quickly with gentle and consistent handling. With my adults the only time I was nailed was my fault, which was rectified by a longer set of feeding tongs.

I think I am going with a ball. 😊 As a long time breeder of horses and an educator of color genetics, the morphs fascinate me. I used to breed other reptiles and may want to breed snakes in the future... Very small scale! The same as I am doing for my horse breeding program. One stallion and one made as opposed to my previous 6 stallions and many mares. Lol With horses the terms are heterozygous and homozygous, but the translation is the same. With horses I always breed for temperament first, conformation next and color last. If I bred snakes it would be the same general principle. I have always loved the piebalds... Gorgeous! But am researching other morphs as well.

Royals are amazing snakes ... Calm , gentle and so many stunning morphs ( even the normals are gorgeous ) .

There only negative is that "some" can be a bit selective in the feeding

I've got an unrelated pair of "matching" HC Albino Royals and I wouldn't part with either for anything ....
