bp yearling versus baby

I think I'm going to purchase a ball python as my first snake. I've done the research and ordered all the needed supplies. I've found a breeder in the area and he has a one year old CB ball python. Is it better to get a yearling or would you recommend a baby? I'm not sure if the yearling is used to being handled or not...if it isn't, would it be hard to "break it in," or get it acustomed to being handled. THANKS, zach

Generally, no, it won't be difficult. If it's a year old CB, then chances are it's a good, established feeder, and that is preferable to a hatchling you can't be sure of. I say if you like the snake and trust the breeder, go for it. And welcome to the site as well.

I would say that if it's coming from a breeder I would bet he/she has handled the snake plenty and can tell you whether or not it's used to being handled in the first place.

i got mine as a yearling too and is about 2ft. once aclimated, i havent had problems. she feeds well and shed perfectly about a week after i got her.
i thought of getting a hatchling too at first but i just fell in love with her from the first time i saw her and changed my mind.
my view is, if its healthy and you like it, then go for it.
having said that, besides the snake`s individual character, its behaviour would also be influenced by how it was mantained by the previous keeper, but there shouldnt really be problems with a healthy snake.
