    Blue Tongue

Been awhile since I've been on the forum, but since then things have changed. My family and I have decided that a blue tongue skink would be better as a pet (I think they like lizards more) and I'm ok with the decision. I feel kind of bad because I never really post pics or anything, but only ask questions. But please hear me out. I really really need to know a reputable breeder and a pretty good cage system that hides the lights but has a screen top. My mother really wants the terrarium to look nice for some reason. Thanks for reading the wall of text.
    Sir Hognose.
P.S. Hognose is SUPER SUPER high on my list, I'll push for one in a few months and save some moolah

BTS are on my list too.. Great pets from what I hear. You might be able to check at your local reptile show (if there is one near you) and see if you can find one that way. There were a few at my local show over the summer, but I didn't have a setup for one ready so I couldn't buy then.

BTS forum. Ask there for breeders. I know there aren't many out there. LLL Reptile breeds some of their own, but I haven't bought from them so can't vouch.

Animal plastics makes good reptile cages. I can't remember the size people use for BTS, but you would need a dome light for the basking spot. You might be able to modify an aquarium w/ stand and wooden hood (which could feasably hide the lights), but I am not sure how humidity would work in that kind of a setup, plus tanks with wooden hoods / stands can be pricey. The reptile cage would be a better option, but would show the dome light on top of the tank (I'm sure you could ask about putting the light inside, but it would have to be a taller cage (so more $) and would need a screen or wire barrier around it.

    Re: Blue Tongue

Blueys do well in a 4x2x2 cage or bigger, mine use every inch of their cage....i also have a deep substrate layer for them to burrow...I currently use visions, but am building my own cages to allow for more substrate and have dropped lights down inside of the cage...with the cage being 2ft tall there is really no need to put a "wire guard" around the lights...they dont really climb. That being said visions also have the option of having a dome light "recess" area as well as a UVB recess area. These guys will need UVB and I would shell out the extra cash for a T5 HO tube fixture. Blueys give live birth and thus only have a few babies at a time...breeders are now just starting their brumation cycle...so you probably wont see any babies until spring time.
