How much does a dark male ball python cost? Are female balls better tempered than males, or are they about equal? I'm thinking about getting a ball python. Im probably trading my corn and a gecko for a female or male ball python. Just wondering if you can answer my questions.

Dark male ball python
Well...I would think that a good quality captive bred/captive born male Ball Python should run you around anywhere from $60.00 to $80.00 - at least this is what I have seen with my own Ball Pythons and others that I have seen for sale at various reptile shops and expos I have attended. As for their temperment I have not seen any real noticeable differences between male and female. All my pythons are very docile and handleable - the only rare exception is my big male Apok who sometimes hisses at me but it is nothing I take personally. Ball Pythons are excellent snakes in my humble opinion...

I don't know exactly what you mean about a dark male bp, but a good captive born bp usually runs you around 50-100 dollars. Usually depending on age, pattern, color(high gold, high white, etc), stuff like that. If you go to shows, however, you can pick up some good deals there. Such as good bp's that are like 20 dollars.
Temperment...nothing too different or notable between the two. Only difference between male and females is usually the size. Females get bigger usually. That's about it though. Most bp's, male or female, are shy docile snakes.

We had a thread about temperament and gender recently, and some of us had noticed that females overall seemed less threatened by handling/handlers and others noticed no difference. Since "dark" isn't considered a morph (unless you get into hypermelanistic), you can probably find one among the male normals for standard online or show prices, or watch the online classifieds for one being sold as particularly dark, probably for $100-$200.

At the NARBC today they were selling normals for $30. "Well started" females were being sold by one table for $75. There were a few with some odd little pattern quirks that were going for 100 to 200 by some tables.
