Salazar and the Chamber of Secrets -- thoughts on new cage?

Hi! This is Salazar, my first snake. He's a Coastal x Jungle CP, about four years old. I got him three weeks ago. Last week I bought and setup his new cage, an Animal Plastics T10.

So far he's spent the majority of his time in his warm hide. I'm hoping he'll start to feel more comfortable because I'd really love to see him using those perches. Do you see anything that would make them unappealing? The low one is below the RHP (about 8 inches below) and the high one is a few inches behind it so he won't be burned.

Heating is an 80w RHP. The hot spot stays around 90F (set with a thermostat) and ambients around 80 according to the two thermometers I have in the cage. I also have an IR thermometer for spot checking.

I would love any comments/criticisms for his setup! This is my first snake so I'm still figuring everything out. I just want him to be comfortable.

Here are a few pictures. The rest can be found in this imgur album: http://imgur.com/a/Je9GW

The fact it is part coastal could be why it doesn't use the perch. Jungles like to perch but for coastals they tend to climb when young but generally just stick to the ground once adults. The tank looks nice. Also do you know if it's 50/50 coastal/jungle? Or if it might have more genes from one or the other?

The snake looks really nice too. Carpets have always been my favorite.

I'm told it's roughly 50/50, but even the breeder was iffy on the lineage. Sal's belly has some jungle-like stripes on it.

Thanks for the feedback! I love this guy so far. I just hope he spends more time out of his hide as he gets more comfortable.

Ive found that how arboreal my carpets act has a lot to do with the individual personality of the snake, as well as your keeping methods far more than which subspecies it is. I have coastals that perch nonstop and i have jungles and jayas that dont understand what those sticks are supposed to be for.

He looks great, and the setup looks awesome too! Welcome to snake keeping, and more specifically carpets! I think you will find that they are very easy and rewarding animals to keep.
