Have a question on Temps.

I read that belly heat is the best. I have uth controlled by ve300 thermostat. The hot spot is at 90. But my question is my ambient air is around 77 degrees. How could I raise that without having something from the top in a light fixture, cause I have 3 cages an there stacked?

I wouldn't worry too much about raising it unless you see temperatures much, if any, lower than where you see them right now. 75 seems to be the very lowest many keepers are willing to see, and you're safely above that right now. Keep an eye on it the later in to the year we get, though. Outside temperatures impact inside ambient temperatures pretty easily.

Having said that, I personally keep an oil-filled radiator on a thermostat in my snake room set to keep the entire room's temperature from dropping below 78. Maybe this solution would work for you if you wanted to go that route.

As long as your UTH can keep up with whatever the ambient temp is you should be just fine. Like Eric I keep the room at 78 or above. But if you have a UTH that can keep a hotspot of 90 it wont really matter that you dip down at night for example. The snakes will just stay on the hotspot. That being said, extended periods of this inactivity would probably not be very good for the health of the snakes so the dip should be a temporary occurrence.

This is to be expected as your tank is glass. Glass is really a poor insulator so the air temps are bound to be lower than they would in a vivarium. I'm new to the hobby but I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter too much about the ambient temp providing it's not dramatically low and it has a warmer area to heat up (basking spot) which you've got, so it all okay!

Try not to confuse hot spot with basking spot.

You may just be using is as a figure of speech but there is a big difference.

If you have a "basking" spot set up it will go unused. From all I can tell a BP would happily freeze to death in a dark hole rather than sitting under a bulb on the other side of the tank. haha

If you are using a bulb to provide heat, be sure it is on the hide. Also be sure that if this is the case you take into account the temperature of the top surface of the hide not only the inside temperature that you would if you were using a UTH. If you are going for a 90 interior temp you could end up with a hide surface that is far higher depending on what you are using.

I had this problem as well i used heat cable. And put it on the other side of the tank and set it at 80 and it solved my problenm

So basically as long as I have a good hotspot of 90f and my ambient temp doesn't drop below 75f I should be good? I'm in Florida so we don't have much of a cold season. House stays about 73-75 year round.

Sorry, I meant hotspot. And yes I would say that's fine providing it doesn't get any lower and the hot spot stays at around 89-91

I'm in FL, too. My hotspots are 87 to 90. My apt is down around 72 at night, up around 76 during the day. Cold end of the tubs gets down to around 72 or 73.

You should be good with your temps.
