hide/temp problem

ok heres the problem. i use a digital thermometer/hygrometer that has a probe. i have the probe under my warm hide, which is a simple cardboard box, somewhat like a shoebox. well, the hide box holds to much heat, so like, it will read higher in the hide then outside the box. is this ok or do i need to change it. and if i do need to change it, how can i fix it? my human heat pad is on low, and my tank is properly propped up

Hi Jason. I had that problem too when I was putting my tank together. What I did was put more layers of fabric or anything else between the heat pad and the bottom of the tank. The more layers of things you add the more the heat will diffuse before actually going into the tank and in the hide box. You can use anything from layers of paper towels to regular cloth towers or unused pillow cases. My heating pad came with a cover and putting that between the pad and the bottom of the tank was enough to adjust the temp to the proper range.

hmm i can get the right temps...the heating pad isnt to hot...its just the hide retains the heat, so it gets warmer in the hide then the outside air.the heat pad is fine.

Well then that issue is just physics. The warm air being generated from the floor is being trapped inside of the cave as it is trying to rise.

I dont see why not. If you were using another kind of hide, would it also not be the same? You could poke some holes in the top of the hide if you are that concerned about it. That way the hot air would rise out of the hide. However, you might make the hide not feel secure to your bp in the process.

Yeah, it's perfectly ok if the temp in the hide is within the correct range. It is supposed to be warmer than the rest of the tank. =)
