I mean this in the nicest way possible - you should think about a kind of snake that interests you first and then think about if you are willing to provide the care necessary to keep it.

Simply wanting to keep the biggest snake you could possibly cram inside of a fish aquarium isn't likely to work out well for either the snake or yourself. Surf around and do a bit of homework for yourself first. The search bar on this site is a good place to start.

Are you planning on buying an adult? Most people start out with a baby or young adult and a tank that big is way more than you will need for those.

Also you should go and see some larger snakes in person and make sure you are comfortable with them and handling them alone will not be an issue. A baby blood or retic sure can be tempting but if you are not ready/aware for/of what they grow in to you will be in a tight spot, I'm not saying that your tank is big enough for those two. Just trying to make the point that you should check out the end result of any snake you are thinking about owning.

A 65 gallon has the same footprint as a 40 gallon breeder(36x18) but is much taller at 24 inches high. Big snakes are impressive/cool/manly, but not an end all. Dont be biased against mid size snakes, they can be alot of fun.
Look up some of the rat snakes like black rats and grey rats, they can get quite big and would probably be fine in that size tank especially since they are climbers and would use the height as well.
Other Id consider but as always look up the info on each species to be sure its a good match.
ball python, male hog island boa maybe. Lots of different colubrids like cornsnakes, kingsnakes, etc..
I wonder if a small carpet python would be happy in something like that, I think they need alot of room though.

If the footprint is the same as a 40-breeder then look into a Tarahumara boa. Mine do like to climb, females top out at 5 feet, males at 4-5 feet. Most other BCI localities will outgrow it.

I would also look at king snakes, both my Cali King and Mexican Black King climb so they would use the extra height, given the opportunity.

The usual recommended size is a tank that is 2/3 the snakes length in length and 1/3 the snakes length in width. Height then depends on the type of snake. So a 6ft snake should be in a cage no smaller than 4ft x 2ft.

I have a blood female that is just over 5.5ft and weights in at 30 pounds. Then I have a male BRB that is 6ft. Both are in 4ft x 2ft x 15in pvc cages. They make good use of their cage. They could not go smaller and be comfortable.
