Jeff and Mason, saying hello.
So my initial introduction to BP's came in the early 90's when I bought a normal from a local pet shop. Unfortunately I knew nothing about respiratory infections and with no resources like the internet available, he died. I never forgot him and always wanted to get another and try again. Flash forward 24 years and now I find myself owning not just one but currently we have 7 BP's. My 8yo son Mason really likes catching anoles and skinks, which there are plenty of here in NC, so my wife and I set him up at Christmas with a tank for keeping them in. Several months ago he started asking about keeping the snakes we were catching around the house, then he saw a BP at Petco and that was that.
I wish we had done some research before buying it, everyone else here seems to have been a lurker for a while before registering. I joined several days after buying his normal. Wouldn't you know it but a few days after buying his snake there was a Repticon show in Raleigh where we picked up a 75 gallon tank and a Spider morph for me. I divided the tank in half with a piece of Lexan and some silicone and picked up a stand for it at Petsmart. The tank is working perfectly and both have had nearly perfect sheds and are great eaters.
So how did we end up with 5 more? At the Repticon show and through these forums we learned about all these beautiful morphs and decided to make an educational hobby out of it for our boys. So after reading all I could find on raising BP's I started to build a list of what we wanted and how we would house them. I found a local sign shop that could get me 4x8 sheets of PVC board cut to order so I made my own 6 tub rack. Once the rack was built and tested I found Justin Kobylka had three of the snakes on my wish list, a Coral Glow, a Fire, and a Super Pastel. Once the Fire was eating and big enough to ship he sent them to me. Justin is tops in my book, what a great guy to deal with and he will always be the first I go to in the future. Recently the other two I was able to get at the Charlotte Repticon show from Anthony at Conley Herps. Anthony is also super great to work with and the Enchi and Mojave girls he sold me are gorgeous.
For or now that's where things sit, though I do have one empty tub in my rack to fill. I'm thinking of a Butter Enchi male that Anthony currently has but I'm also thinking possibly of saving up a bit more and finding a nice Pied or Clown to add next.
All i I can say is just about everyone we've met and talked with have been great and the wealth of information on this forum is amazing.
