Handling outside the cage

My 5 month old BP seems to enjoy coming out of her cage. She comes to the front and seems to stare at me, and willingly climbs onto my hand. Is this possible? When she comes out I start by holding her on my chest or lap until she decides she wants to move around. Lately she wants to move around on the bed or couch a lot. Is this safe? We have dogs, who are locked out when she is out, but can BPs "catch" anything from the dogs? It goes without saying I keep a very close eye on her and don't let her fall or get under the cushions. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also dumb question...what does it mean when you see BPs described as 1.0, 0.5...etc? Or a weight instead of age?

I am not aware of anything your snake could catch.

The numbers seen like 1.2.3 means this.
The position number one is in dictates male.
The position number two is in dictates female.
The position number three is in dictates unsexed.
Then the number itself tells you how many of that sex and species the keepers has. So 2.3.1 Ball Pythons tells you the keeper had 2 males, 3 females, and 1 unsexed.

As for the weight. That just gives a better idea of the snakes size as age does not. Plus I think many snakes actual age is unknown by the owner. Weight is usually more important, especially to breeders.

Sometimes looking at pictures it is hard to determine the size of a ball python, but if you know the weight, which is measured in grams, then you have a better idea of the size of the snake
