Re: The Enigmatic Ball Python Appetite
Excellent, excellent article! Probably the most thorough and organized article about ball pythons and the topic of feeding I've read to date. My experiences are 100% with everything stated in the article. I particularly enjoyed the "case studies" of individual finicky eaters and examples of solutions. Most new keepers don't realize the PATIENCE needed with raising and breeding this species. It's not uncommon for me to provide clients with assistance on a recently purchased "feeding" ball python that obviously hasn't fed in some time. This is why purchasing from a reputable breeder AND ethical breeder (sometimes the two don't always go hand in hand) are so important.

Very nice. It's good to see some one who likes to pass on information and wisdom especially within a hobby like this. I also read Justin's article and must say that his theory with bedding changing is amazing. I absolutely love these animals and think it's amazing what all they can do without any appendages. I want to make sure I'm doing the best I can to help them out and not causing unnecessary food strikes which I think happens more often then people will admit...
Despite working through several feeding withdrawals, interestingly enough , I have an adult male that's gone almost 2 months without eating. I was told 8 weeks without eating before I got him. The previous owner just stopped feeding him due to his plans on selling the snake and thought he shouldn't eat if he was going to ship him. I haven't tried everything yet but I have put in effort. The thought of transferring him to a smaller enclosure was my next step but I didn't think of changing the substrate so thank you for that idea!

Certainly was a good read. Thanks for posting. I'm currently sitting here watching my 10 month old trying to figure out where to start on this medium rat. Tried butt first, then a thigh, then dead middle, now just circling. After reading this earlier today, I decided to scent the room a bit which got her attention quick, slid open the cage and there it was, "the look". Bam!!
