Exclamation I feel so bad!! Please help!

My Baby Ball Python, Minho, was bought a couple months ago from a pet store that we have no later found out doesn't take care of their animals too much....... He had poor living conditions and came with some problems... He had mites that we cured and he has recently been experiencing rectal prolapses..... This time he needs a vet and we don't have the money to pay for it
I don't want him to die and indont want to risk doing it myself.... I would like to know if there is somewhere i can take him where he can be helped and given a good home near the Alliance, Ohio area.... If you know anywhere then please let me know as SOON as possible..... Thankyou........

Don't worry, you can try and help the snake yourself. There are a lot of threads on here about prolapses these are the links to two but there are many more.

    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...apsed-Hemipene!

    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...olapsed-Rectum!

Read the info in these threads and follow their directions. Make a sugar water paste and put it on the prolapse. The rest of the info is within these threads but you can do that quickly just to help with the swelling. Please keep us updated and don't worry too much, all hope isn't lost.

Thankyou so much!.... And truthfully, I am kind of scared to do this myself.... I have someone to help me, but I have done lots of research on this and learned that you could kill them by attempting to this yourself and I would never want to hurt or kill Minho.....I'm still debating but thankyou for you answer and your help....

I understand your fear but it's better to at least try and do something to make it better than do nothing and allow it to get worse. I've been in odd situations with my snakes where I was very afraid to help them but had to. A snake I purchased once had mites in it's eye sockets and I was hoping that after I treated the mites and killed them that they mites in her eye would fall out but they wouldn't I had to get them out they were literally so disgusting and uncomfortable looking that I couldn't allow them to stay in there dead or alive so I had to CAREFULLY remove then and I could tell she appreciated it/felt better not having them in her eyes. So please try your best and help the snake I don't think you can do much wrong with spreading the sugar paste on the prolapse, and soaking them in a sugary water solution. The sugar just brings down the inflammation and allows the prolapse to recede back into the cloaca without issue. Just try and keep us updated we will help you along the way as much as we can. Could you also post up a pic of the prolapse so we can see how bad it is?

I agree and think you should try helping your snake. My first reptile as an adult, the one that got me started on reptiles, was really sick when I got him. Chameleons do not like to be handled by humans and a healthy one generally will not allow it as it stresses them out so much. He let me do all sorts of stuff to him. I had to pull and wipe mucus out of his eye socket and I had to force water into his mouth. Then after the vet visit I had to hold him still by myself while I gave him injections with a needle in between his scales. Some times I knew I was hurting him and stressing him out but he tolerated it and now he is so much better. If I tried pulling some of that stuff on him now he would be pretty upset with me and I would know it. At the time it was hard for me to do and I wanted to skip steps but now that it's over and he is better I am so glad I did it! As long as you follow the steps and treat it as an actual procedure you can get it over with and he can get better. Maybe you could find some one to do it for you while you help instruct?

Re: I feel so bad!! Please help!

My first BP had problems with prolapses. The most important thing you can do for Minho is to make sure those exposed tissues do not dry out while promoting retraction. One time I had Abu under a gentle stream of warm water and used clean fingers to VERY carefully and gently guide the tissues back where they belonged. The things we do for our beloved snakes!
