    not your average colombian?

I got this guy back in december at my local reptile show. The dealer said it was just a colombian red tail, but the ones I usually see (as babies) are a gray color, and mine as you can see is tan with salmon sides, kinda got a square tail going on. I did some research and saw that there is bci and bcc in colombia, and i'm wondering if it's a bcc. Idk if it's captive bred or farm bred or wild caught. It looked like the dealer was selling some wc animals, anyways..any insight would be great.

No BCC there in my opinion, looks like a nice darker normal-colored Colombian BCI (no squaretail).

BTW there's no such thing as a Colombian red tailed boa: the proper term is Colombian BCI vs "true" red tailed boas such as the BCC localities

I agree with Daybreaker, though there IS a Colombian BCC (True Red Tail) they are east of the Andes Mountains. The trouble is, I haven't found one top of the line locality breeder/expert that has them. Gus Rentfro and Vin Russo both have stated they are not lucky enough to have any locality data on true specimens so they have not worked with them but they have seen them. What Daybreaker is saying is pretty accurate and the existence of Colombian BCC may be a thing of the past.

If that was a true Colombian BCC, you'd be paying thousands for it, and every BC breeder in the world would be chomping at the bit to get a piece of it.

This is my Gus Rentfro produced, Barranquilla, Colombian BCI. It is said to be what a natural cross between BCI and BCC would be like. Even the scale counts differ from "common" BCI boas.

This is a very juvenile boa in this photo. Note the square tail which is a common trait in this locality. It's NOT a square tail however, it's just a very specific locality of BCI.

I love this boa and feel very lucky to have bought it.

Legacy Reptiles still keeps this line going.

I think you have a fairly normal BCI there, yet any Colombian BCI could have a mixture of different things in it. Without a trusted breeder or locality data/papers you will never know for sure.
