Snake acting really weird with his food?
Lately, my little guy Naz hasn't been eating. It's only been about two weeks since he ate last so I'm not too concerned, and he looks healthy (and bright, he just got done with his very first shed! <3), but this week, when I placed a mouse down for him to eat...he took a nap on it?
Maybe not a nap...but he just kind of casually plopped his head on it, like it was a pillow, and chilled there. Then he tasted the air around it and proceeded to just stare at it for a whole day. Not striking, but occasionally putting his head on it. I thought maybe he was interested, but maybe he saving it for later?
So I let him do his thing, hoping it would be gone by morning...nope. He didn't come out of the hide that night, either. Just kept poking his head out of the hide, looking at it wistfully, then going back in. I let that continue on for another whole day (I know, gross, but he looked so interested that I didn't want to disturb him!) before I eventually got rid of it. The whole situation was bizarre.
Maybe a bit of extra info would help one of you guys help me figure out what the heck is going on here:
- I've had him for about 2 months and he's always finished his feeding within about 10-15 minutes. Usually a superb eater! <3
- He can open his mouth just fine, saw him do it this morning, and the inside of his mouth looks alright as well
- He can see the mouse fine, and he doesn't have leftover eye caps on
- Temps fine, humidity is fine, clean water, clean bedding, clean hide!
- Now that the mouse is gone, he's out and scooting his dumb self all over the tank and having fun on his play stuff
I'd REALLY love to know if I was just missing something super obvious, or if I should be concerned (because honestly, it kinda weirded me out)...Anyone ever have a similar problem?
Thanks for reading!
