    Post Hydrofarm thermostat

Can the hydrofarm thermostat regulate heat cable? Do you have any comments about this product?

    Features:

Provides constant optimum temperatures for crops
    Easy plug-in operation
    Illuminated indicator light
For use with the Hydrofarm Seedling Heat Mats
    Precise Temperature control ±2°F
    Temperature control range 68-95°F
The Thermostat has an automatic safety shut-off if probes's temperature reaches 110°F

I'm not sure if this thing can go high enough. My heat cables run at 110F under my bins for a in bin temp of 95F. Guess it really depends on how you use it. Personally I like the ReptiTemp 500R from ZooMed and the HygroTherm if you need humidity control

They were pointing out what it is made for.

People do use them. I bought one and it failed within three months so I will not recommend them. I vote Herpstat now 100%. I have 4 units and have yet to have an issue. I suggest buying the best tstat you can. If $100-130 is to much check around for a used one. I think I even saw one here recently, check. The tstat is the most important item you will buy for your snake so don't be cheap because your snakes life depends on it.

    Re: Hydrofarm thermostat

Its a very budget friendly option. Ive used 2 on cages for over a year with no issues. Obviously the herpstat is a way better option, but the hydrofarms do work well enough.

    Pros: Price
Cons: on off only, (pulse proportional is way better) zero safety features, big temperature swing (4 degrees Fahrenheit during normal operation, which is pretty significant to these animals), lack of features, loud clicking noise as the relay turns on and off

I wouldn't use them on anything that cant be safety run wide open for a period of time. All thermostats can potentially fail at some point. The expensive ones have enough features to make this less risky. The hydrofarms do not. The cages I have them on are big and run low wattage heaters, so if one fails wide open for a period of time worse case scenario im only looking at hot and uncomfortable animals, not dead ones.

The big temperature swing is annoying to me as well. I actually notice a difference with the ball python who uses it. When she goes to bask she is constantly moving around as her basking temp changes from the thermostat. I dont know that she really cares but I find it annoying on her behalf. The carpet python never basks ever, so I dont really care on that cage.

Edit: I love my herpstats though. Once I start adding more cages to my stack ill by using the herpstats exclusively, the hydrofarms will be backups or maybe run a quarantine cage
