Breeding cycle timing questions
Ok so I’m playing a little “who’s your baby’s daddy?” and I was wondering if some paring timing could help me out.
After fertilization, how long do the females hold the eggs before laying? I’m basically counting backwards from when they were laid to see when the latest pairing COULD have been the one.
Also 2 more related questions:
I know it is possible, but how common is it to have a dual sired clutch? Is it likely? Common?
How long can the female retain viable sperm? Can it be held over from the previous season? Has anyone actually had this happen?
(this particular situation was her first year, just wondering)
For anyone interested in the situation, I purchased a female Mojave. I figured it was kinda late, and did not think I'd get eggs this year, but threw in butter to see if I can get some BEL's. Did not see any action, did not think much of it, I just shipped her, and the butter was still young. Turns out, she lays eggs!! I asked the seller, and he had put her with 2 males earlier, but also did not see any locks. Somebody did the deed, just trying to figure out who
