How Do I Know If My BP Is Afraid Of Me?

So I have had my BP for about a week and a half now. He fed fine after a week with no issues. Whenever I go to pick him up his head automatically goes in the S shape which freaks me out a little. Also, whenever I pick him up he turns his head back and looks at me which even though it shouldn't it kind of freaks me out more. He is my first snake and I don't want to admit it but I am a little afraid of being bit. I absolutely love him and am very intrigued by him because he is a beautiful animal and I do not want to not be able to handle him. I have a leopard gecko and was afraid of him at first then got used to it but this is different. Can someone please give me suggestions without making fun of me?

There's a pretty good thread going on about this right now: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...hon-(beginner)

There are a few jokes in there, so I hope you're not easily offended. They're all in good fun. After all, you did buy a snake and not a puppy or kitten.

Re: How Do I Know If My BP Is Afraid Of Me?

It's rather normal to go thru an intro phase with a snake. Just sit down with the snake held in your lap so it doesn't get dropped if you do get tagged. It'll take a while for trust to be built on both sides. Being bit is not so bad you'll find but if it is really worrisome wear gardening gloves or oven mitts at first. And spend time with the snake, about twenty minutes at least three times a week. That gives a chance for the two of you to bond.
