Another substrate Q

Hi,

I know theres been millions of substrate questions but i just need to know if corn cobs are ok. Ill be getting a new enclosure soon and will probably use astro-turf,but im currently using corn cobs as substrate. FYI, i use a separate rubbermaid for feeding. Reason im asking is, like everyone, i want the best for my snake and to make sure it feels as comfortable as possible at all times. So far, she has never appeared stressed or anything but sometimes the signs are not obvious,so you never know.

Thanks Marla , sry i missed that thread. Ive been feeding my snake in a separate enclosure-just a big rubbermaid. Still i guess newspapers are safest and easiest. So, back to newspapers for me then.

There are a number of other substrates you could try that are more attractive than newspaper, if that is what you're going for. Cypress mulch, aspen, outdoor carpeting, ceramic tile all work and are more attractive, but newspaper is certainly easy and you can't beat the price since I just pick up the freebie papers, like Creative Loafing and Mundo Hispanico.

Ok, sorry to hijack the thread .. but i've got to know. That paper can be one of two things ( or the only two i can come up with ) ....

Its gotta be either:

Creative Loafing: Bread Baking at its finest.
or
Creative Loafing: The fine art of laziness.

Now, me personally, i would go with the second and would have a lifetime subscription

How do you keep the ceramic tile from scratching/injuring the BP? It sounds pretty, but knowing Ruby and her Godzilla tendencies I'd be afraid she'd knock it all over and cut herself on a sharp edge.

Tracie: By buying tile that fits pretty snugly against the sides of the tank, and, if needed, using "filler" such as paper towels or sphagnum moss to make the fit even more snug.

decision made. ill use astro turf for both the current and new enclosures. i just wanted to be sure on corn cobs cos all this while, i thought it was safe as long as you feed in a different enclosure(my feeding tank is a big rubbermaid without substrate).

Sounds like a good plan, Doc! If you buy it at a home improvement store, you should be able to get enough to last you a few years for less than $10. I'm sure you'll be happier with it than the worry of corn cobs, which I liked myself until I researched it.
