New Enclosures...

So I finally got my 2 fire ball pythons last week and they are doing great. Very friendly and eating well, but ive got them in a split 30long fish tank and I figured I would go ahead and look around for some nice enclosures. Until I can find myself a job im running off the money I earn from selling off my fish room (around $600+). There was one site I was looking at but sadly I cant find it anymore so I came here to see what you guys could recommend me. Any suggestions?

Check craigslist, but I haven't had much luck on there (I'm from GA too) although there's a little more in the Atlanta area.

Many people use a split pvc cage like a T25 from animal plastics (Look under "terrestrial cages") and put a center divider in the cage. If you get them to put 1 strip of wide heat tape at the center (for the hot spot) and then an RHP on each end, it allows both snakes to have a warm and cool side to their half of the enclosure. Btw, you would need a thermostat to control the heat tape and the two RHPs... If you raise the ambient temp in the room to 78f, you wouldn't need RHPs.

I don't have my BP in a pvc cage yet, so I can't give you more specifics than that... I will say that using a rack is another option and is cheaper to house multiple snakes, but you have to increase the ambient temps in the room (the air temps using a small heater and a thermostat) for a rack to work properly. The rack would also have heat tape at the back of the tubs and that would need to be hooked up to a thermostat too.

Another cheaper, but equally doable solution would be to purchase rubbermaid tubs, put heat mats below for hot spots and either increase the room temp or use a heat lamp suspended above each cage (on a dimmer) to raise the ambient temp in the cage. Again, you'd need a thermostat for the heat mats (I use this setup now and it works but it is hard to keep temps up in the tubs if you don't raise the ambient temps in the room).

Good luck, and I'd say whatever you do, invest in a good thermostat. I love my herpstat but the hydrofarm I have works good too.

A T25 is quite a bit larger than what most BP keepers would recommend. A T8 is cheaper and plenty large for two divided BPs.

Is a T8 sufficient for 2 adult females as well? I thought that it would only be large enough for young snakes or males, which is why I recommended the bigger one.

A divided T8 has roughly 576 square inches of floor space. That's slightly smaller than the Vision 70 and Freedom Breeder 70 tubs and slightly larger than the ARS 70 tubs (most common tubs for adult females). Long story short, a divided T8 is in line with the size of enclosures needed for adult females.

Thanks for the info, its a 1.1 pair so I'm probably going to go with the t8 setup if my parents dont make me get rid of one (they are determined).

Rob- that's a nice set up, where do you get those hides from?
