    Lights on racks

I'm sure this question has been asked multiple times on these forums but would you recommend having lights on your snakes if you have the racks? Right now I have my guys in 20 gallon tanks with heat pads and lights and all.

What do you guys recommend keeping your snakes in. I like the racks more they save space and are a lot easier to get in and out of but I just feel like they need light and you can really get light on them with the racks. I do plan on breeding some and I think having tanks is going to get overwhelming and take up too much room as babies start to come.

Please just give me your advice as far as how you prefer to keep your snakes!

    Thanks!!!!

Your feeling is incorrect. BP's in the wild live underground during the day and come out at night to hunt. They don't need light/UV to be healthy and in fact they prefer to be in dark little holes most of the time.

    Re: Lights on racks

A similar thread regarding lighting and racks from last week: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ght=rack+light

TL;DR: Lights are not necessary for BPs.

As far as what people prefer, it tends to be dependent on the size of your collection (and the size of your wallet ). Many people with smaller collections prefer to have display-style cages - aquariums, Animal Plastics displays, etc. For those with larger collections, this kind of housing becomes inefficient (in terms of time and space among other things) so most gravitate towards rack systems. Proper husbandry can be maintained in either of the options, however, as long as you commit to proper care of your animals.

For me, I started with two divided Animal Plastics T8s for my four girls. However, in a month I will have moved everyone over to racks. As my collection evolved, I found it necessary to adjust accordingly.

    Re: Lights on racks

If your snake is eating its apparent that you are not doing it incorrectly! My female had a better feeding response if I feed her during the day with the lights on. I have tried several different things and this works best for my girl.
    People on here have opinions!!
The snakes are the experts!! Pay attention to your snake and do what works best for them!! Everyone will vary with feeding, lighting and set ups. As long as your temps and humidity are good, you have everything on TSTATS, and your snake is eating you are probably ok!
