Question Creating a Habitat for a Baby Ball Python (heating/ lighting/ vivarium questions)

Hi! I just joined this forum. I am currently gathering supplies to construct a comfy habitat for a baby ball python (haven't bought it yet). Is it bad to buy one from Petco?

I still need to find appropriate lighting and heating for a 20x20 terrarium, but I'm very confused as to which lights to buy. It seems like I need a bask lamp and a general lighting lamp, but I'm unsure. Could anyone break it down for me?

I also have questions about keeping the snake in quarantine.
Ultimately I want to create a vivarium complete with succulents and other plant life, so I am planning on initially quarantining my baby ball in a Large Exo Terra Faunarium for a few weeks while I observe the health of the plants. How do I go about properly heating and lighting the faunarium during this time?

Do you think it's too ambitious to create a whole vivarium for a first time snake owner? I just love the idea of having a tiny little ecosystem for my snake to reign over.

I would really appreciate any advice y'all can share, as well as any experiences with quarantine, or the challenge of creating a healthy vivarium. Thankssssssss

welcome to the forum. There is a ton of info here and you will lose track of time reading it all. As for making the habitat, check out the husbandry section for bp's. There are a few ways to do that so you will need to see what will work for you and care for the bp. As for getting your snake from petco, it is not the greatest place becuase their staff may not know much about the snake and could give you advice that is either incorrect or not the best. However that does not mean that you can not get the bp from there. They also may not know the sex of the snake and i have never heard of them knowing info such as when the snake was born, etc.

Daytime lighting is for you to see and a bp has no daytime lighting requirements. You will need some sort of heat lamp that will provide heat 24/7 and not act as a visible light source at night. bp's need a period of darkness i believe. all of this though is based on what your cage is, such if is an aquarium or a reptile glass terrarium from petco. Info about set up will be in the husbandry section of the forum. aslo ther are cage heaters that go on the bottom of glass cages tht provide ground heat but do not install one without a thermostat to regulate it. i would suggest not to get the thermostst that the pet shop has. many on here use either a dimmer type switch found at Lowe's or an actual thermostat that can control and monitor the uth( under tank heater). The acutal once ar over $100.
I also have questions about keeping the snake in quarantine.

There is a section about quarantine but i think that has to do with if you already had other pet snakes in your house
i would sugesst starting with the basics and learning to control your temps and humidity. the tank need a hot and cold side. one you learnt his, then you could expand into what you are wanting to create. The more stuff in the csge is more to clean on cage cleaning day.

read the bp section of the forum on care and husbandry. also use the search to help find answers. once you get you snake you will need to leave it alone. the shortest recommended time is a week.

last, dont forget most important part, post some pics.
