My baby boa was in her water dish,I think she is shedding, but the water was cold!

I am worried that she might get sick! Will she be okay,is this normal?

It probably will be OK. Cold water is often sought out when temps are too hot.

I'm not a huge fan of snakes spending long periods of time in their water dishes. I know about every care sheet says have a dish big enough for the snake to soak in, but in all reality if your temps are spot on, the humidity levels are correct and your snake is free of external parasites soaking should not be a favorite activity. I can say that with some confidence regarding boas because I also read it from a post of Gus Rentfro's.

Not to start a big debate because I know some people have snakes that will zip through the water now and then.

But if they spend a lot of time in it, I'd monitor the situation on the husbandry end of things.

This was a first for her,she has only been with me for a short period but there is a chance with the change in weather here the last week or so the ambient temperature was to high but she stayed in after the timer for her light went off and when I finally checked her,I figured she was shedding and was gonna let her be,the water was ice cold

If she continues to want to soak move her water dish over her UTH so that the temperature warms up a bit and it will increase the humidity in the enclosure as well.

Also, check her for mites since you haven't had her for long, she may have come to you with some hitchhikers.

I double checked and no mites on her or in the water,I took her out warmed her up,she seems okay, checked her temperature all good, and no attempt to go back in.everything seems fine, she is definitely gonna shed, so I think she just got in to help shed, lights kicked off and water got cold, I hope she is okay,I'm new to the boa world and get nervous,I've grown very fond of my little one

I think you'll be OK. If you have a warm spot, the boa is capable of finding it and rewarming her internal temp. You have a snake, there are some adjustments you'll make here and there. No worries mate! Ask questions if you need to. We're all here to help!!

Thank you so much!I think I'm paranoid, I had a nice collection twenty years ago,I didn't know enough then to quarantine and I bought a rock python baby and it destroyed all of my beautiful snakes and I gave up the hobby, I just stared again and I have quickly remembered the attachments and amazing level of trust on both ends and I don't want it to happen again, and that little boa is a awesome girl,so curious and trusting I would be crushed! That's why I'm on here, like minds and information that wasn't available years ago!I can rest easier now, I was watching her breathing lol

how cold is the rest of the tank/room it's in? There really isn't a reason why a water dish at room temperature should be ice cold unless the rest of the tank(not including the hot spot i would assume) was a lower temp then it should be.
