    lighting for python terrarium

I am in the process of building a 4x2x2 terrarium for my sons python. Im looking for advicebon how to set up the lighting. I was going thcenter a strip light centered in the backnwith a black light for night time. I was also going to mount two heat lamps, one on each side each hooked up to a dimmerbto better control heat. Im not sure if thisbis overkill. Any ideas or modification suggestions?

I can only tell what has worked for me. And that is One heat bulb on One side. That way, when if the snake needs to cool down, he can move to the other side. Now he is a 4 footer, so he Needs space.

As as far as illumination, play with it and see how it looks!

    Good Luck

What type of python is this for? Could be overkill depending on the species.

I would look into if the black light is actually ok or not. I'm not saying it isn't (never checked myself). Lots of people use black lights on scorpions because it makes them glow. Just recently at a expo I talked to this arachnid guy and he had this more current data showing how its actually harmful to the scorpions but most people don't know that. I can't remember why it was bad, just pointing out that different light spectrums affect animals differently so be sure its ok if you are gonna use it. They do make night bulbs for reptiles as well. I don't use heat bulbs on my snakes. They just get heat mats. I do use infrared heat bulbs on some of my lizards and I find those give enough light in the tanks to see at night if you don't want to actually turn a room light on.
