Largest boa species?

I apologize if this has been done before, as I'm sure it has. But I was not able to find a thread in my quick search of the site. So I'm just curious does anyone know what the longest species of boa is/most girth? I love big snakes, but retics, burms and anacondas are not for me. Thanks!

Anacondas are boas and are the largest. My guess for next largest would probably be a red tail of some type. Someone with more knowledge will be able to answer more accurately.

I think the true red tails/BCC's like the Guyana and Surinam boas can get pretty big, especially the females, though there will be individual examples of other BCI's that grow just as large if not larger than some of the "giant" snakes.

There was a breeder at the Hamburg, PA expo last year who had a female Surinam, she was not for sale but her babies were, and it wouldn't surprise me if she were 13-14 feet.

That snake was Ed Lilley's. He makes the Pro-Line cages.
From Gus Rentfro's old website he stated Peruvian Red Tail BCC are some of the largest boas.

Also Argentine boas get huge. Boas are usually heavier and stronger than pythons of equal length. Though pythons at full maturity can be massive.

As I mentioned earlier,

The BCC boas, especially the Iquitos, Peruvian boas, and the Argentine BCO's are going to be the largest. Suriname and Guyana Boa Constrictors will get big as well.

Read anything from Gus Rentfro or Vincent Russo and you will find this to be true.

When you are looking for Boa Constrictors that are the largest those are the ones, note I said Boa Constrictors and not "boas". The anacondas fall into the boa family and they are the largest.

Having said all of that, any of the species/sub species can have a giant pop out now and then.

Among Boa Constrictors (excluding Anacondas), as a general rule, the true red tails produce some of the largest localities - Bcc Surinamese and Guyanese are the largest localities with males reaching 7-9ft and females often reaching 10 feet or more.

Argentine boas are also very large, being heavier bodied than most other sub-species. Females are often over 8 feet.

Some Colombian Bci females can get quite large as well.

It is important to note that any sub-species and/or locality can produce larger or smaller specimens.

B.c. sabogae and nebulosa are actually two of the smaller sub-species. Sabogae are an insular sub-species and nebulosa are a mountainous sub-species.

B.c.nebulosa is a rather slender sub species and does not hold a candle to the B.c.c group..
