Uth temperature

Hello. I recently acquired an adult male ball python from my friend since she wasn't caring for him properly. My question is what temperature should I have my uth at? It's under about 2-2/12 inches of Eco earth substrate.

The temp of the uth isn't what matters the temp on the inside floor does. My suggestion would be to get a temp gun so you know what to set your thermostat at, to achieve the proper floor temp.

I have a probe on the floor to get the temperature.

I just want to know what that temp should be, enough to help with digestion but not too hot that he would get burned.

You need a TSTAT probe inside under the substrate sitting on the bottom. Have it between 90-92. You will probably need to set the TSTAT around 96 or so to reach the inside temp of 90. This also depends on what enclosure you have and how thick the bottom is. I am guessing its a glass tank? Ambient air should be around 82-85 on the warm side. 77-80 on the cool side. 2 hides, one one the UTH and one on the cool side. Need a water bowl big enough for the snake to get in and soak. Humidity needs to be 60-70 %.

2-2 1/2 inches of substrate is WAY too thick. If you have the surface that the snake is resting on set at 90 degrees with 2+ inches of substrate and the snake burrows the glass bottom will be hot enough to burn it. Most manufactures suggest having a substrate layer no thicker than 1/2 inch depending on the substrate.

As long as you have a tstat regulating your temps, your not going to burn you snake don't worry
That generally happens when people have an unregulated heat pad hooked up.

When I had my BP I kept the hot side dialed in between 88-90. But yes reduce the substrate. Having a thick layer of substrate creates a bigger temp flux between the substrate surface and the actual surface that the heat mat is on. So the thicker the substrate the hotter the heat mat will need to be in order to meet the temp needs on the top substrate level.
