Escaped ball, tried most of the tricks I can think of...HELP!
Hi, any help would be appreciated. 3 days ago my little female ball managed to escape her cage. I have turned my house upside down looking for her. I've placed flour on the ground around all the walls. I placed her little hide and heater next to a water dish on the floor near a wall. Last night the flour trick worked (sort of); she left little slither marks in the flour, but I cannot tell where she went (apparently I left a little too much flour free space-we've got dogs and they would have spread it everywhere). I have a couple of questions-it's feeding time and I was going to buy mice (my snakes REFUSE to eat the frozen/re-warmed ones no matter what I do) and I was hoping to tempt her out. Any suggestions as to how to put a live mouse where she can find it without allowing it to escape?
Also...I have a basement and I have looked through it completely. It is chilly and not that many places for her to hide, but I don't want to block it off because if she's down there I don't want to trap her. Suggestions of how to rule out the basement as a potential hiding place?
Well, thanks for helping. I feel like an idiot that I allowed her to escape in the first place. I should have known better and am so worried about Frejya being gone for so long!

Most people find their snake not more that 10 feet from its home. I would look really hard around the cage.
What type of enclosure do you have for her?
Can you put a live mouse in there with it left open and not get out? This may be a way to coax your snake back home. After eating it will probably go into it's hide to digest.

She's more than likely still in the same room. Check objects that leave a small space between the floor like a dresser, entertainment center and the like. I have found some of mine right behind the rack there on several times. A couple times still on it just behind a different tub! With your dog's, I'm guessing she didn't go far because she would be afraid of them.

if its chilly in the basement she prob will avoid it, unless their is like a furnace or something dwn there to generate heat......things that generate heat n seem to be fav hides like refrigerators, hot water heaters, dryers, freezers are common hiding places, remember they like heat and tight places (like they like their hides to hug them.). Chances are if you find her hiding it will be tight and warm where ever she may be.
as far as the feeder, its the smell that you are using to entice her out with, a kritter keeper or even one of the lil cardboard boxes a lot of pets stores sells them in would do for that.
The dogs is rough, they could hurt the lil ball if their big enough just on instinct.....i have a few dogs myself but if it were me i would send them somewhere for a day/night or two.....spread the entire house with flour, leave out feeder & try to stay awake to watch, though this isnt participial for everyone.
Everything is pretty basic that i have mentioned but hope it helps to at least spur new ideas.

I will try placing a mouse in the cage. I guess if she can get out she could get back in for food. The cage I have is a glass tank with a screen lid...I didn't think she could push up the top. I had it weighted down. Thanks for the tips!

i would remove the screen lid entirely if you can do that without the mouse getting out of the tank that is!

I've thought a snake escaped before (she was actually stolen, but that's neither here nor there) and I saw a trick online with a bird cage - you pry the bars apart just far enough to allow the snake through, and after she eats the mouse she stays in the cage.
I can't attest to it working or not, since my snake was unfortunately never recovered.
PS cool name, I have a cat named Fenrir

Mine got out a few times, never the same one but they get smart after awhile but mine never went far, check small places or undet/behind things.Just because she wasn't there before doesn't mean she isn't there now,I'm so sorry,my stomach dropped both times, the worrying will make you nuts!
