Oh and I really wonna give some props to this site it is really cool. Oh and is it alright for my BP to dive underwater?.....One more question how round will an average BP get?...Ok just one last one I feed my BP a Fuzzy the size of his middle but it goes through like 7 or 8 a week is that alright or should I go to bigger prey

I need some info
well you cant really tell how old they are by length, i think it all depends on the snake and what and how much it has been eating
and yeah its ok for it to dive, i asked the saem question yesterday i think and, yeah its ok.

7-8 fuzzies a week? What's your feeding schedule? You don't feed him everyday do you? Just one equal sized prey a week is good. Sounds like you're overfeeding. Ball pythons are very opportunistic. If you offer them food, they may take it even if they've already eaten and should be good. So yeah if you're going through like 8 mice a week, then up the prey size, or just feed him once a week. Set a day to feed every week, like friday. And then every friday, feed them a rodent the same size or a little bigger than the thickest part of his body.
Oh, and yeah it's okay for your bp's to dive in their water. They know what they're doing.

reeses dives at night sometime so i figure it is ok. oh yeah and uh do u mean rat fuzzies or mice fuzzies. becuz i feed my bp rat fzzies and he is only like 19(well prolly bigger don't really know just a good estimate) but he is on rat fuzzies so a 2 foot bp should be on like rat pups or rat fuzzies or small or large mice it is all ur choice but it should justbe the same or a lil bigger than ur bp' girth.

New rescue case!!
yeh what you need to do is take a good look at how big around your snake is (girth) and then compare that to the size of a rat. (rats are more healthy...switch to rats if you can) find a rat that is the same size around, or a little bigger, and feed your snake that size rat once a week. as he gets bigger, feed him bigger...just once a week will do the job.

Welcome! Ball python size varies pretty widely, but at about two feet long a reasonable guess would be that he's a late 2003 hatchling. As the others said, it would be a good idea to start feeding him on a weekly basis, one rat pup or a large mouse ought to do it. Have you been feeding live? If so, it would be a good idea to switch him over to eating pre-killed or frozen/thawed prey, especially as you increase the prey size. Live prey can do a lot of damage to a snake, and I'm sure you want to keep him safe.
