First Shed Questions

Hey all,

My 2 year old normal finally shed for the first time yesterday. The shed went fine, but I have a few questions. I only picked her up a few weeks ago and the previous owner did not keep track, so I'm trying to figure out her shed cycle.

1) How soon after feeding is it normal for a BP to start the shed cycle? Is there any relationship between the two events? I fed her on Saturday night two weekends ago and she was opaque five nights later. How soon after feeding would she have started?
2) How soon after a shed is it ok to feed her? She shed yesterday and normally gets fed on Monday nights now. Should I wait longer?
3) I just noticed that two-thirds of her paper-towel litter in the tank (30 gallon long) has suddenly turned yellow. It was not like this before she actually shed last night. Is this just a huge quantity of urine that she finally released after the shed was done? As far as I am aware, no fluid is released with the skin when BPs shed.
4) How soon after a shed is it ok to handle her?

I’m pretty sure that shedding has more to do with growth than with the feeding cycle. Feeding doesn’t necessarily trigger shedding. Most snakes will go off feed when they’re in the process of shedding though. I don’t think waiting to feed after shedding is necessary. I know two of my bps are always hungry after a shed and snap food right up. I don’t see any reason why she couldn’t be handled directly after she was done shedding, so long as it was a good shed with no observable problems. The yellowing I would imagine to be urine, there is no fluid loss associated with shedding that I know of?
