Thermometer probe position

Hello.
I have a question regarding the placement of the thermometer probe. I currently have the snake on shredded coconut husk. I've heard some things say place the thermostat below the thermostat on the glass (I have her in a glass tank right now fixed up for temps and humidity. Working fine) or some things say above the substrate. Anything to help clarify this would help greatly. Thanks.

A Thermometer probe, or thermostat probe? You're not clear (at least to me) and it definitely matters. A thermometer probe on the warm side is best placed on the glass under the substrate on the warm side. It's ok it keep it at the upper end (92F) since it's under the substrate, but realizing that the snake can easily burrow down to the glass. It's not the end of the world if it's moved off the warm spot since it's not regulating temps, but a little hot glue can be used to hold it down (No tape or sticky anything in snake enclosures).

A thermostat probe can be kept either between the tank and UTH pad (done when the UTH is applied), taped to the UTH, or on the glass inside the tank (with conditions)...If you want to have a thermostat probe inside the tank on the UTH it must be VERY well secured. If it is not and it is moved off the heat source the UTH will turn on full in an attempt to get the heat to it's setting and more than likely become a burn hazard. I did have mine set up this way for a time, but I used a piece of aquarium tubing hot glued down the side and along the bottom to the center of my UTH. I use a rubber stoppers so the probe couldn't be pulled out further. I did it to combat room temp changes which would swing UTH temps a bit more, but to be honest, it wasn't worth the effort or risk, and having it taped to the outside would have been sufficient and safer.
