    Ball Python Making Wheezing Sounds?

I've noticed ever since I got my ball python, he has been making wheezing noises. I read online that it could be an upper respiratory infection and that I should increase the temperatures in my tank. I raised the temps. I also gave him a few baths after he shed and there were still some pieces of skin left a while ago. He was also spitting a small amount after I raised the temperatures. A day after I raised the temperatures, he stopped spitting.

There's something covering both nostrils and I don't know if it's skin left from a shed or if it's crust from mucus.

Otherwise he looks healthy, he moves around a lot and can't sit still. He also has a strong grip when I hold onto him.

I've tried getting the blockage off of his nose and I'm wondering what else I can do?

If he's wheezing and was spitting anything, you should take him to the vet. He probably does have an RI, and will need a culture and antibiotics.

Take him to a vet. In the meantime keep his humidity bumped up as well as his temperature.

How long have you had him? Who was the seller - big box store, breeder, or ...?

Thank you both of you. I will see about getting him to a vet. Will it clear up without going to a vet if I have the temperatures and humidity bumped up?

@bcr229, I've had him for around a few months and I got him from another person (not a breeder or pet store)

Not usually. Even if it's caused by a viral infection rather than a bacterial one, the vet can still give you antibiotics that will stop a secondary/opportunistic infection such as pneumonia from taking hold while your guy fights off the RI.

Re: Ball Python Making Wheezing Sounds?

Hello! Just here to say that I think my python is doing better after I bumped up the temperatures and humidity. Not hearing any wheezing sounds now and there doesn't seem to be anything plugging his nose.

He actually has been looking great for the past month or so without wheezing or blockage in the nostrils, but I decided to wait and see if his condition would change. So far it hasn't!

Thank you for helping and giving tips
