BP heat lamp lighting vs. natural sunlight
Hey y'all,
I have a question concerning proper lighting for my BP,
But here's a little background on my initial set up vs. current:
ive had him for about 5 weeks now, he's housed in a glass terrarium (20gal) in my spare room away from traffic areas, my initial set up for his tank had a Small UTH and an overhead day bulb basking light to keep my temps up on the hot side and room heating to keep the cool side above 77 since the spare gets pretty cold in the winter if not heated.
Since its glass with a mesh cover humidity was always an issue, found myself misting 2 cloth towels 2x day.. Anyways, I've recently made this mock cover from a wood plank with aluminum foil on the under side to reflect heat and humidity and duct taped all around to give a snug fit over the screen already present. So doing so ive decided to drop the heating lamps altogether and stick with my UTH, temps at night are 84 hot side and 75-77 cold side, during the day theyre around 91 hot side and 80-82 cold side.. Humidity levels are consistently at 60 and can be easily dropped or lowered to his needs (solid cover covers about 3/4's of the screen lid, left over bit i made an aluminum flap that i lower or raise when more or less humidity is needed)
now that my temps and humidity are consistently the same without the heat lamps drying everything out, I've decided to stick with natural sunlight from the window, Buddha, my BP, sleeps all day in his hot side hide as usual so I'm assuming he doesn't miss the day bulb but the last few nights he's been super active, almost looks like he's looking for a crack/opening.. compared to earlier weeks when i used a black-light on a night for heat (i would rarely see him). Is this normal or am i stressing him out by relying on sunlight?... mind you the sunlight is indirect and i have placed bamboo screens on the back glass and light exposed glass side to help cut the glare and light from the window during the day.. Im just concerned tht maybe the natural sunlight cycle in that room isn't enough or long enough for him? Since they're naturally originally found much closer to the equator and daylight 'i think' is longer there..I know theyre nocturnal but i just want to ask for your opinions on this matter.
He is feeding/pooping regularly and not being aggressive or anything. He's a super sweet boy with a healthy appetite.
Just tonight i took took him out for about 45 minutes while i cleaned up a stinky present left by him and he just chilled around my neck the whole time, so that tells me he's not stressing. But again, any knowledge on my lighting situation is welcome
thx!
