weird pinstripe feeding problems
Hey, everyone. New to the forum but long time snake keeper and small time breeder, mostly for myself but i do sell some.
I have a question about newly hatched through young pinstripe BPs.
I never have any feeding issues out of any of my snakes ever except... pinstripes.
No problems from any 2 gene animals that have the pinstripe gene only single gene pinstripes....
Anyone else ever see anything like this???
I have purchase 2 young pins from breeders and hatched 7 of my own and had the same problem from all of them.

I've never seen anything that would lead me to believe that feeding issues are related to any specific gene or morph.

unless you are mistaking pinstripe for a spider or spider morph...my pins have NEVER had problems eating...
it would also be really helpful if you explained what you meant by "problem"

Re: weird pinstripe feeding problems
Sorry for the vagueness on "problem". All my snakes eat every saturday night. During breeding season they go off like expected. My pinstripes have always eaten very rarely year round. I have had 2 hatchling pins that even passed away after expelling an assisted feeding, one today actual thats why i bought the question up.
I am positive they are pinstripes. The females i hatched from are a lemonblast and a black pastel jigsaw.
It isnt a husbandry issue. My snakes are in racks and even after moving them to different spots they still continued to have problems while the snake they were switched with never had an issue in either spot.
I think my solution will be to avoid the gene now!!!! Haha

Super pinstripes? Joking I do not mean to bring up that issue. It is odd to see you only having issues with pins...is it only young pins or do your older ones sometimes present issues?

Define perfect husbandry?? do you regularly check hot and cold side temps? I know of people who have varying sized tubs in their racks and dont realize bigger thicker tubs with 90 degree hotspots result in smaller thinner tubs with hotspots of 95+ if they are all mixed size on a rack....I've NEVER heard of issues with any pinstripes before....are your meals too big? have you tried F/T, fresh killed, live? ASFs?

Re: weird pinstripe feeding problems
This is interesting. I got a pin girl 2 wks ago that the breeder was feeding live xl mice. I also feed on Saturday nights. I feed ft rats. I've checked my husbandry every day and she won't eat. I'm going to break down and get her a mouse, or scent a weanling rat with mouse litter and get her to eat. I also have a big normal girl and a yb boy that isn't eating. My original girl and pastel boy eat no problem. If you figure out there is a problem with the gene let us know. I want to breed her when she is big and old enough to a pastel yb boy.

Most likely she won't eat not because she's a pinstripe but because it's a big jump between live mice and f/t rats. I would try switching to live rats first, then to f/t rats.
I don't have a pinstripe as a single gene, though my spinner girl has been a solid eater from the get-go.

Re: weird pinstripe feeding problems
I'm going to get her one on Saturday. She's a pretty little girl and not nippy either.
