Some day (soon), I will have all black corn snakes.

The pairing I have wanted to do for ages finally locked up last night. My nice quality bloodred het charcoal male, Essan, to my near-black pewter gal Lacy.

Lacy usually gives me between 15 and 20 small eggs (babies hatch in the 4 to 6 gram range) so I should have a good variety of tiny, stunning bloodreds and pewters. A few generations of line-breeding, and I bet I can get them consistently like mumsie there.

Might have to sign up for a little corn in our ball room!

Suddenly I want corns. I usually don't quite like the way many adults look but those are an exception!

Wow that would be great if you are able to make an all black corn.

    I agree!
Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

That is what a good quality bloodred should look like, and why they are called bloodreds. The tough thing with them is they often don't reach their best coloring until they're 4 or 5 years old.

That is pretty much my goal with this line. The bellies will probably remain white, but I actually think that will be a nice contrast to the rest of the snake.
