    Mopani Wood

I have been misting my tank daily to keep the humidity up, especially right now since my BP is in a shed cycle. Last night I decided to try something. I have a fairly large piece of mopani wood inside. I took it out, filled a tub with some hot water and soaked the wood for about 15 minutes. This afternoon I checked the humidity. It's usually back down to around 45-50. Today it is still at 64%. Do you think this is just a coincident or did soaking the wood really help? I will keep experimenting to see.

It's possible that the wood was releasing moisture into the tank. I would be a little worried about doing this on a regular basis for fear of mold growth on the wood, but aside from that I don't see why this couldn't work. I would let the wood dry out completely for a day or so between soakings.

I agree! Long term could be a bad thing. Normally the humidity is pretty good with a large bowl of water and maybe occasional misting. I wanted to get the humidity up for the next week or so just to help with the shedding.
    Thanks!!

I ended up having some Mopani grow mold on the bottom of it where there was substrate covering it.

If it does, throw it in the oven at 300° for about 20 minutes. That should keep you in the clear.
