I heard these are hard to find

So I found the iris x-mas tree storage boxes on line. I have also heard they work for housing boas. I was wondering if they are large enough to house a small locality boa its whole life?

I bought one of those when it was on clearance for $20 at WalMart earlier this year. I should have bought every one they had left. IMO it will work for a boa up to 6-7 feet long, as long as the boa isn't thick. I figure it will be fine for male BCI's, all BRB's, locality boas, younger female BCI's, juvenile burms/retics, etc.

I found a site that stocks them . There around $35 a piece. Iv read BRB's are not suggested for beginners, is this due to the husbandry requirements, Or is there more to it?

About the BRB, I think the high humidity is why they don't recommend for beginners...But I'd think in a proper enclosure (like a tub) it wouldn't be hard to do...Heck, I had trouble getting humidity in my boa's tub down to the right levels (it kept staying at 80%)...My boa is a BCA, so needs closer to 50/60%.

I have the same problem with BP's tub latley. I think a lot of it is the weather right now. im getting it down a little at a time and she seems to be ok for now.

I think BRB's aren't recommended for beginners because beginners try to keep their snakes in tanks, and if you thinking maintaining the humidity in a tank for a BP is difficult, it's almost impossible to keep it high enough for a BRB. Also, the babies can be a bit nippy, which scares off a lot of new snake owners.

OTOH if you get a BRB that has passed the juvenile fear/nippy stage and have an appropriate tub or enclosure to maintain the humidity then keeping a BRB is fairly easy. Like most boas they're good eaters, and while they grow up to 6' they're fairly thin, and all of mine are laid back and easy to handle.

BRB's are probably not recommended for beginners because they wouldn't do well in a 10 gallon aquarium with a screen top and a heat lamp. Of course I don't think ball pythons do well with this setup either. They're primarily an arboreal snake that needs a high humidity. Personally I think most snakes are easy to care for if you have the correct setup.

Plastic boxes can be frustrating to shop for, I've found that if you don't lay in a good supply right away you can be left high and dry with no boxes available for the nice new rack that you just built. They do seem to change sizes and styles fairly often.

If it's the V175 tubs, it's not that they're all that hard to find exactly, it's that for a lot of people they tend to be seasonal so you have to jump on the chance to buy them when you can to get them locally. They would certainly do a smaller locality boa for life though.

As for BRB's, I think they make a good starter animal as long as you understand their humidity needs and get your caging set up appropriately for it. Get that set up and keeping one should be a piece of cake.

I actually have some of the V175 tubs and am planning in the near future to build a rack to hold them...it's purpose is going to be for housing my adult breeder pairs/trios of BRB's, one of those pairs being a 6' male and 7.5' female and I don't see them having any issues due to not enough room for them.
