Ultramel question
OK so how many different lines of ultramel are there? Are they compatible with one another? I just bought a russo ultramel male. Found some het ultramel for sale but wasn't sure if they were compatible with the one I have.

Re: Ultramel question
There is only one Ultramel line. Noah Line from Africa.
Pretty sure Vin Russo has Criders. He calls them Ultramels...They have not been proven compatible though.

There are ultramels and criders...if they are compatible or not isn't known for sure. There had been a breeding done but it was a visual male of one to a het female of the other which produced no visuals, but there is some question since then about if the het female used was actually a het or not. There is someone who is breeding visual ultramel to visual crider this year so if his female goes, then we will finally have a definite answer about if they are the same or not.

at least we know its not compatible to caramel albino, albino, or lavender albino.
but ultramels from different sources should all be compatible, since they should all originate from the same original line. that is, unless there has been mislabeling going on with one of them.

Time Dilation is real, it is so real that all clocks if they are precise enough can measure it, and GPS could not possibly work without it. If you disagree, send me a PM.

That's the problem, people are not keeping the lines straight.
I've seen people selling Criders as ultras not even mentioning they were Criders...Also people with Criders for sale always put / Ultramel in there too, insinuating they are the same gene.
I don't think anyone calls there Ultras slash Criders to sell them... I know I never would!
In the end I would love for these genes to be compatible to eliminate all of this confusion.

Other than the same types of people who are either so lost about genetics that they would try to sell you a het pastel, or the ones that would intentionally try to sell you a het pastel, I doubt many people have ever tried to sell crider line ultramels as being the same gene. I take it more as being along the same lines as the different lines of ghost that are out there, visually it appears to be an ultramel, it's from the crider line, simple as that.
I do think it's easy for people, especially newer ones, to get confused and overall it will be much simpler if they do prove to be the same gene. We have enough confusion for different reasons as it is, so I'm watching and hoping to see a clutch of visual ultramel/criders pipping this year instead of some double hets!

i think the way out is proper documentation. if you have documentation going back a few generations, its very easy to sort it all out. documentation is just as important for discovering new morphs, and to trace back anything new that might come up.
but to really set up an ancestry database, several breeders would have to come together. its being done with horses, and with all other kinds of farm animals. and its being done with a number of rare zoo animals, like giraffes or polar bears. but record keeping still seems rather limited in BPs.
i guess it will develop over time. i dont think it will be long until we get something like a BP with 100 known ancestors in its database.

http://www.iherp.com/ has the framework for an ancestry database, but imo It's just too time consuming to use. Not really the ancestry part, but the husbandry part. I mean there really no incentive for me to put my animals on there and have the next person I sell them to not follow through with it. Now If it was the all in one husbandry software it could be, not only would I use it, but the person I sell to might also. It has potential but has also been pretty stale for the last few years. I was told they were working on a mobile app to speed up inputs a couple years ago. If it was faster to use, I know I would start using it.
As for the direct topic. I'm just waiting for the ultramel x crider results, hopefully they are compatible. If that is the case, imo are just as similar as butter/lesser, we should just drop the name crider and call them all ultramels, since ultramel seems to be the more popular. Still nothing wrong with calling them crider line ultramels tho. If they are not compatible, doesn't look like much will change and we will have a few disappointed people who thought they bought something that was mislabeled. Like some people who bought non-compatible hypos and axanthics

Re: Ultramel question
Is there a location I can follow the results of this? A breeder page or something?

It happens a lot!
Like I said, Vin Russo has Criders he calls Ultramels...
I saw a Pair of 100% Het Ultramels for sale before...There was a pic of the photo id that came with them...The male pictured that sired the clutch was the original Crider male!!! I replied to the ad and the guy had no clue Ultra and Criders weren't the same/compatible...
