Maintaining Humidity Levels

Hello everyone,
I was recently having some heating and light issues with my ball python's habitat but they have been resolved thanks to the caresheet provided on the site and the user(s) who gave me some helpful advice. However, I have ran into another issue. I had to increase the bulb wattage in the heat lamp in order to maintain an appropriate ambient and basking temperature but because of this my humidity levels are falling fast. I currently have a manual mister, which temporarily raises the humidity to ~50% but just after an hour it falls back to the 25-30% range which is not good. I'm busy during the day and can't manually mist the tank every hour. How can I resolve this issue? I know there are automatic misters/foggers available for purchase but my local pet store(s) only had one or two in stock. Can anyone suggest me an automatic mister/fogger that will keep my ball python's habitat at a comfortable humidity level? I'm willing to go above and beyond to keep my little guy comfortable and healthy, but please do not suggest anything that is too ridiculously priced.

Well Jim in this day and age things can be costly (I'm 16 so yes $60 is) but if you feel that get reptie fogger, or if you like diy then make one with a cheap ultra sonic fogger or a fogger head and a tub. If the diy just look up on YouTube if you don't get the store bought humidifier (has to say ultra sonic on it) attach a hose and run that into your tank. Then there's the other one buy a ultra sonic fogger with a float, computer fan, and tubing also a big tub with a tight lid. Take the tub mark were the hose will be Mark it then put the fan on the otherside of the lid (make sure it's a water proof one) a tiny hole for the power cable of the fogger and it's done just glue or find a way to keep the hose in place and tight so the mist doesn't escape. The fan is turned on then the ultra sonic fogger. It take a bit too kick in depending on the amount of heads it has but the fan blows air in (forgot to say put it on so it blows in not out) forcing the mist up the tube into whatever you need. That's the harder but more diy route sorry for being long

You can try a different substrate and/or moss to help keep it up. I just got my bp a week ago and I'm maintaing close to 60% daily with just rewetting the moss every afternoon. This forum is amazing , I've learned a lot

Solid you are right smart man lol same I do for mine I use frog moss my jazz is on aspen so it's ok. 55% here but I'm in Michigan an were just coming out of a cold dry winter summer is always better with humidity here. Hope you enjoy your ball to the full extent and get more there addicting XD

Solid you are right smart man lol same I do for mine I use frog moss my jazz is on aspen so it's ok. 55% here but I'm in Michigan an were just coming out of a cold dry winter summer is always better with humidity here. Hope you enjoy your ball to the full extent and get more there addicting XD

You could also try and get a larger water bowl to have a larger water surface area and do the tinfoil mod to your lid. Start with the water bowl in the middle of the hot and cold zone. Move it towards the hot side to increase your humidity. This what I did so i would not have to mist and because I am at work for a 48 hr shift.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to head to the pet store today to purchase some moss and I'll be moving the water dish under the heat lamp. Hopefully this works. If not, I'll try some of the more alternative methods such as the foil mod you mentioned.

What kind of cage are you using? If it's a glass one with some kind lid that is on top of the cage that is made of some sort of mesh you will need to do the foil mod. You are losing both heat and humidity through the lid. Yoit heat lamp is also drying the air out as well. The foil will trap the heat and a large water bowl will at the heat to create the humidity. You can control the humidity by now close the water bowl is to the heat lamp.

If you try this you should not need the moss.
