What wattage RHP to get for a split Animal Plastics T8?

Hey everyone, so I'm getting another Animal Plastic enclosure. This time I'm getting a T8 (48x12x12). It's going to be split for two snakes so there's going to be a RHP on each side of the enclosure. The RHPs are primarily going to be used for ambient temp.

My question is: what wattage RHPs should I get for the T8? My choices are: 28, 40, or 80 watt RHP.

My T12 (48x24x24) is also split and has a 80 watt RHP on each side but I think it might be an overkill for the T8 to have two 80 watt RHPs.

Are you getting your rhp's from Bob at Pro Products? He can help you with wattage. It will depend a bit on you room temps. Shoot him an email with cage sizes and room temps, and he will get you set up.

Im actually going to be getting them from Reptile Basics. I have both a Pro Heat and Reptile Basics RHP and I like the RBI one a little better.

I wound up going with the pro product ones, for safety reasons after some things I read, and heard about the type of heating element rbi uses. *fire issues* and I also read that the heating element rbi uses has actually been banned in Canada. :/ But I'm sure if you call Rich he can help you with wattage. He's super helpful.

Some of it was in emails I received, regarding product information. Other stuff I just found by searching. I can Google and find some and see if I still have email, and screen shot, later. The rbi ones are not UL listed either.

If your using it only for ambient temps with a separate basking site id go with the 20 watt. 40 watts would easily cover all your heating needs. 80 would be overkill. Shoot, my 50 watt is borderline too much wattage and it heats a 4x2x1 by itself

Yea, I think I might go with a 40 watt.

Re: What wattage RHP to get for a split Animal Plastics T8?

Ok, here are screen shots of the info I received from Pro Products (could it be a sales pitch, sure). But I felt much more comfortable going with the UL rated one (especially after a read over on rtb an electrician saying he just wouldn't take a chance and would only use Pro products UL listed panels). If you do a Google search, and search here, and over at red tail boas, you will find people recommending both, and people saying RB's aren't as safe, even with the thermal fuse. I'm sure there are plenty of RB panels running in homes that are fine. In the end, it's a personal choice.

For those who think it's a pain or weird that he doesn't list panel sizes and prices on his website, he explained to me that too many people order the wrong size panel for their needs. So that would generate a lot of returns and messing around getting the right product for your cage. Makes sense to me. Had I not spoke with him, I probably would have went with a bigger (unnecessary) panel. And the ones he recommended, are up and running perfectly. I am very happy with them. They are heating and keeping temps perfect in my boas Animal Plastics T20 cages.

I appreciate the info. I'm not sure how I feel about the emails though. Seems kind of weird if you ask me.

I think im going to go with Reptile Basics. Thanks again.
