Question about Frozen rats

Hi Everyone,

I feed my BP frozen thawed rats he is up to a medium size. He has never missed a meal until 2 weeks ago when he would not eat, I tried him again today and again would not eat. However that is not my concern I know it can happen. My question is when I pulled out the rat after leaving it in there for some time I noticed it had little light brown things on that were moving. I checked the other frozen rat I have and it has the same things. What are they and why are they coming alive after I thaw them EWWWWWWWWW. Should I be concerned that the rats are not good? ( they look pretty good for dead rats ) Could they be lice and do you think it can affect my cage? I checked out my snake to make sure he is clean of any mite or any other creepy crawly things and he is nice and clean.

I personally would throw them out. I would be worried about little bugs that are crawling on my feeders.

I'm gonna guess lice, but honestly am not positive. And I believe I have read that it is actually OK to feed. But have no personal experience with that. I raise my own, and feed live. However, it would be gross enough to me, I would throw them out. Eww.

They are very EWWWWWW specially when they were frozen and once thawed came to life

I wouldnt take the chance and use them. If we have a rat that is walking around and looks sick and not fully healthy we dont take the chance. Your snake is more important than a little money spent on rats. Might try a different supplier...

How long did you leave it? They might be maggots, or mites. Anything that smells dead to a fly will have the eggs deposited on it and they can hatch within hours.

Looks like lice.
It's safe to feed and cannot affect your snakes.

If you have rats, however, be careful. It could spread to them.
