Export Rules From Hawaii

Greetings

My family is planning on taking a trip to Hawaii in a few months, and my brother is really excited about possibly seeing Scolopendra centipedes up close. He was wondering what the export rules on these inverts was…would they be something that could be taken on a plane home from there, or what??

While active duty, I flew into and out of Hawaii more than 20 times. In a nutshell, they won't let ANYTHING on the islands, and are VERY restrictive on what they let out.

Not that I'm advocating a course of action, but the only way I have seen anything get through the agricultural screening, is if the object in question is not metal, and will fit in a pocket. Even then, if you fly into or out of Honolulu, they have the spin scanners, and it will be detected if you are selected for that type of screening.

All in all, not worth the risk.

Just got word back from both the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

I have the go-ahead for shipping Scolopendra species of centipedes out of Hawaii without needing any kind of permit.

So, the major question now is how do I catch the centipedes, and how do I properly pack them for shipping??

Help in these matters would be great; couldn't find much on Arachnoboards or Youtube lol

Honestly I don't know

But wouldn't you just pack and ship them like the little tiny corn snakes. In a reptile box, in little deli cups, with/without heat, etc....

So, not one to leave a thread without a resolution...

We went to Hawaii, searched everywhere, and didn't find a single centipede anywhere

We're thinking of trying to visit a different island (we were on Oahu this time) when we go again, so maybe more luck them
