Feeding frozen/thawed for first time

Today im going to feed one of my Bps a frozen/thawed rat. Ive already read though several threads regarding this topic. But this is my very first time doing this. Im probably overthinking but want to make sure I dont mess this up. Any tips for a first timer?

I remember when I was trying to go from live to F/t. It took a while. Expect from frustration. You might get lucky and it happen the first time but don't count on it. I've sat for hours attempting to "zombie walk" dead mice in an attempt to have them appear alive. Good luck 90% of the time it isn't a problem and I may have just had an abnormal experience with it.

O ok. Im not trying to switch any of my snakes. Feeding live works great for me. The reason i have this 1 frozen rat is that i bought it alive for one of my other BPs but he went on a hunger strike and it got too big for him. I had to kill it and freeze it. Now i got this 2,000 plus gram female and i am want to feed her this rat. Its more of a one time thing so the rat doesnt go to waste.

I got pretty lucky. 5 out of 7 of my new BPs ate f/t the first time. Now, only one is a hunger strike. I'd say just be patience, I was going to zombie walk for about 20 mins on one of them before he struck and I left some overnight.

I was asking more about the defrosting itself. Ive fed my snakes prekilled before with no problem but ive never defrosted an animal and fed it to my snakes. Im only going to defrost it once so i want to do it right. If the snake doesnt eat it its getting thrown out.

So I just heat up water and throw the mice in the water. I know that's not recommended but its just easiest for me. I would recommend you put the mouse/rat in a bag that is somewhat air tight just to keep those nice juicy odors on the prey. Make sure he is warm enough!

I would most certainly recommend putting the rat in a bag THEN putting it in the water. Wet soggy rats are disgusting a and my ball pythons don't like it. Make sure it's thawed out completely and offer it with tongs. A few launch at it and suck them down, where as my other two I have to put the rat under a heat lamp to warm it up and then "Play" rat until they strike lol
