Winter Feeding Strike
Ok, bear with me... So, Kismet is my eldest snake. I adopted her last May and my other BP is still a juvenile. So after much worry and a vet trip, her lack of eating since November was chalked up to a classic Winter hunger strike as she is an adult and that is normal. And I'm monitoring her temps and weight, obviously.
So, yesterday she was out and about, searching her cage...I took it as a hunger cue and got her a rat today. No luck.
I'm just curious, do I just keep offering a rat every few weeks or am I looking for a more obvious hunger cue?
Sorry, I'm spoiled by my juvenile f/t eating BP who doesn't refuse a meal ever lol! Luckily, my pet store takes returns on feeder rats!

Re: Winter Feeding Strike
Sometimes they'll shed around this time of year and be ready for something to eat. I'm lucky to have 2 colubrids which have brumation/winter food strike down like clockwork and my 1 BP follows the same routine and schedule. Neither snake has eaten since October. I'll be offering food to those 3 snakes in the coming weeks and they should all be eating by mid April at the latest. With how cold this winter was, it looks like they will be coming around a little slower/later than usual. They haven't been active yet and they usually start popping their heads up in the first 2 weeks of March but my BP shed the other night so I'll be offering food tomorrow.
I'd offer again in 2-3 weeks.
