Outside always. If the wood is too thick, consider using radiant heat panels (RHP) on the inside.

** I have not done this myself because I use PVC cages** However I have seen people with wood enclosures cut out a square the size of the heat mat on the bottom of the cage then place a piece of plexi that is thinner over the opening in the wood, seal it up and attach the mat to the plexi.

A lot of people use glass vivs successfully. Just make sure you have a tstat hooked up to the pad am d watch your humidity.
