    Question about my BCI's eyes...

    Hey guys,
It is me again, and I have a question about boa's eyes. I had a friend look at my 7 month albino BCI last week, and she said her eyes were white with red slits. Is this normal? I read somewhere that they have the stripe over the eyes from the stripes on their head. I was not sure if this was the way her eyes were supposed to look or if she was getting cloudy before a shed. If it was a before shed thing, shouldn't she shed soon since it has been 4-5 days since the eyes were noticed?

    Anyways, thanks for any help!

shedding takes several days. I just had a boa shed in a week and a half. my other one took 3 weeks. depends on the boa. yes your albino boa will have white eyes with a red slit.

If she were to be in shed, what what her eyes look like "in the blue"? This is applying to my albino, I supposed that the red slits would be clouded over completely? Thanks for the information on shed times though, I was not sure how long their shed cycle was compared to my ball.

It's VERY hard to tell when an albino boa is in shed. Their eyes really don't look much different. To the observant owner, they will just appear more dull than usual.

Albino boas have white or pink irises and the pupil is red. So, yes, white with a red slit.

Re: Question about my BCI's eyes...

My albino is in shed right now. I tried to take a picture, but I don't think it would help. From the picture you can't see much. It's hard to explain, but her color does change. While she normally has vibrant pink on her, her whole body gets more of a over all pinkish- dull color. I can tell by looking at her.
If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies.

Thanks guys, I thought she was going in to shed because her eyes were white with red slits... oops!
I also have some questions about behavior is anyone can help with that.
Is she supposed to be very "chill" when left to her own devices on a person?
But when someone touches her or tries to stroke her she becomes very touchy....
Like she immediately starts to squirm and move around.
But when she does get still, she lays all out.. mostly along a forearm, and next to a persons body.
She doesn't much care for being held up, like my ball, she prefers low, where the ball likes higher up.

You have to remember that snakes are not like our furry friends, the dog and cat. They don't really like to be stroked. They will usually tolerate nominal handling, but petting? Not so much.....

Yeah, albinos sure are difficult to the untrained eye to see when going into shed. But near the end, lime all snakes, they will get that grey look to them except its not grey lol.

While my snakes are not head shy, they do seem to only tolerate me rubbing their head for a couple of minutes. Rubbing their chin is another story. I think they actually like it, at times. They will stay still and relax as long as I am rubbing their chin. That's just my observation.

Yeah, some of mine seem to enjoy a chin scratch and several really to seem to like to come out to play, but as a general rule, stroking a snake isn't much appreciated by the snake. But you're right - some do seem to actually like it.
