    Uth

So I got my thermostat in the mail yesterday....hooked everything up and seemed okay...I got home from work tonight and the thermostat is set at 90 but when I check the surface temp of the cypress....it is sitting at 80 to 82......it isnt but 1/2 inch thick....if that....is something wrong with the heater......I have the temperature probe right on the glass suggested by other posts.....any suggestions as to what to do?? Thanks!

move the probe away from the heat a little at a time until the thermostat and thermometer read the same temp.

You want to know the temp of the glass, not the surface of the bedding.

Your ambient temp will have a lot to do with the differences. The lower the ambient temp the higher the difference will be on the surface of the substrate.

Ugh......this is harder than it sounded and apparently I have no idea WTH I am doing.......I am working another 12 hours or more today (nurse with major snow coming and probably call offs) he was out again last night checking everything out...... my UTH temp was really high before the thermostat was placed on it.....but the substrate was sitting good at 90....thank heavens he didnt burrow and get burned...... the heat pad is a 10 to 20......bottom of cage is 18x18.....(working on getting longer cage)......should I get bigger heat mat? My ambient heat is too low for sure....even with a day bulb......ugh....
