No eggs yet. How long is too long....

This 0.1 Pastel has us a little on edge. Here is a little history on her....

First saw her locally on ~7/2011 and she was 777g when I first entertained buying her. She is an early 2011 and was looking pretty healthy at the time. She was sold to someone else who I kept track of. In Jan 2012, I picked her up. She looked the same, but was only 825g (only put on 75g in 6 months due to a financial situation with the owner not being able to feed all her animals). We got her to 1400g by 11/2012, and started breeding her to a Mojave. She absorbed and did not go last year.... probably due to her just not being ready and gaining weight pretty quickly here.

This season she was bred to a Sugar Fire and Enchi Pastel and was 2100g on her last weight on 11/2013. She ovulated on 12/14/2013, and post ovy shed was 1/1/2014. She now sits at day 51 post ovy shed. This is dragging out farther than any other female I have had. Longest last year was 42 days post ovy shed till we saw eggs from a female.

She is still active in her tub and will occasionally try to come out when it is opened (she also happens to be the only adult bp who has bit me ). It seems the 7 eggs I can visualize through her body are creeping towards her cloaca day by day without any eggs laid yet. It does not matter if we get eggs from retained sperm, or this years pairings. We are just looking for her to get some relief here. We are making a call to Dr. Bogan from Gatorland on Monday if she has laid eggs by then. I have him on call to visit all my animals at the facility for a flat rate trip fee.

Basically how long, is too long??

Pic just this morning on day 51....

I know some of my females have push my limits year after year my longest was 54 POS that is a grand total of 68 days between ovy and eggs.

For me it is a question of how long combine with how the female looks (in other words where is the first egg in regard to the cloaca and how is the bottom half looking), I think I would put my limit at 60/65 days. (Again MY limit)

I just called Dr. Bogan and he is coming to the facility Wednesday if she does not go on her own by then. We will ultrasound her here (and a few other girls on the flat rate trip charge ) and see where the eggs are. He uses Calcium and/or Oxytocin injections to assist in the egg laying process. He said it will not have any effect on the eggs and generally takes a day or two for the injections speed up the process.

    Hmmm....

After talking to a well known breeder, he does not think she ovulated yet and just has HUGE follicles. Recommended throwing her a male to move her along. She is very active and not nesting which seems odd. Minutes after I tossed my Enchi Fire in she was tail wagging....

Anyone else thinks she looks awful "glowy"??

Maybe a rookie mistaken call on the ovy......

There is an very easy way to see whether or not she is gravid, if my your timeline she is 51 days POS, eggs are very visible (they are actually visible way before that)

Get her out of her tub hold her tail up and head down straight in from of you and then flip her tail down and head up (nice and smooth when you do this), if she has eggs you will be able to count every single one of them

As for glowing hard to tell since I have not seen before and after pics (I have female showing very faint glows and then some change tremendously).

I don't think I actually mistook this as an ovy on 12/14/2013??

IDK it does look like an ovy but it is hard to see if there is any tail suck or not in that pic. Hold her up like Deborah said that is the easiest way to tell.

7 easily visible eggs. I don't have enough hands to hold her and take a decent pic.

Here's an ovy cheat tip for you, If you suspect an ovy simply lift the tail and take a peek on the underside, there will be a visible "V" shaped indentation running 1/4 - 2/3 forward from the cloaca (hope i spelt that right) if it's an ovy.. have fun...
